**What a tradition? What a symbol?**

27. Talented students at this American university are renowned for their ingenuity. One interesting tradition at MIT is the engraving ring. In 1929, the students designed a ring with an individual design, depicting the North American beaver as a symbol of the hard work and practicality of the university graduates. The beaver eventually looked more like a rodent, and the ring was called a bronze rat.

28. To celebrate the Ascension, Lincoln College students gather at the tower of the building and drop coins from there to the children waiting at the bottom of the square. This tradition goes far back into the past, to the XV century, but it was not fun then. The coins were thrown hot, and it was thought that those who would be burned would learn the lesson of greed.

29. Another tradition goes back as far as 1851, with students burying an ivy escape into the ground on campus as a symbol of a lifelong connection with the university. Freshmen's responsibility is to water all planted ivies on the campus and take care of them. On graduation day, every brotherhood and sisterhood plants a new plant to continue the tradition.

30. Students at this university have been studying the impressive chain of underground tunnels and pipes since their creation in 1881. Neither the insects, nor the rats, nor the illegal entry into the territory have stopped generations of students from the research. They are trying to find a secret entrance to the university library, as it is believed that the one who finally does it will become the best student of all times.

31. The unofficial mascot of Emory University is Dooley's laboratory skeleton. He appeared in 1899, when students wrote letters to a university newspaper on his behalf. On campus, Dooley is represented by one of the students, usually wearing a black cape, black top hat, and white gloves, who can appear at various events without warning during the year.

32. This college is considered to be the most prestigious of all Oxford schools. But this does not prevent noble students from continuing a bizarre old tradition. Every 100 years, college members with burning torches arrange a procession in which a wooden duck is the core element. According to legend, in 1437 a huge duck flew out of the basement of the university. The next ceremony is scheduled for 2101.
