**Script Requirements:**

**[Scene: The living room. A couch sits in the center with a coffee table cluttered with magazines and a laptop. Sibling 1 sits on the couch, scrolling on their phone. Sibling 2 enters from the hallway, visibly upset.]**

**Sibling 1:** (looks up from phone) What's wrong?

**Sibling 2:** I just found out that Jake is cheating on the math test tomorrow.

**Sibling 1:** Seriously? That's not cool. But what can you do about it?

**Sibling 2:** (paces back and forth) I feel like I should tell the teacher. It's not fair to everyone who studied.

**Sibling 1:** (sighs) I get that, but snitching could get you into trouble with the other kids.

**Sibling 2:** (stops pacing) I know, but it's the right thing to do. Cheating affects all of us.

**Sibling 1:** You're right, but think about how people will react. Are you ready for that?

**Sibling 2:** I guess... but if I don't say anything, it's like I'm letting him get away with it.

**Sibling 1:** Maybe you could talk to Jake first? See if you can convince him to come clean.

**Sibling 2:** (considers) That's an idea. But what if he doesn't listen?

**Sibling 1:** Then you do what you think is right. I'll back you up, whatever you decide.

**Sibling 2:** (nods) Thanks. I think I'll try talking to him. I just hope it works.

**[Sibling 1 smiles reassuringly, and Sibling 2 heads towards the door with a determined look.]**

Answer and Explanation:

Martin’s bedroom. Martin is lying on the bed, his right arm covering his eyes. Colt is walking back and forth.

COLT: Just don’t do it, man.

MARTIN: (sighs) I haven’t made up my mind yet.

COLT: Then listen to me. This will only bring you trouble.

Colt sits at the food of the bed. Martin uncovers his eyes.

MARTIN: Isn’t it the right thing to do?

COLT: In theory, yeah. But I can assure you he will find out it was you who snitched.

Martin sits up. Stares at Colt.

MARTIN: How? Wait, first of all, let’s not call it “snitch”. I signed an Honor Code. We all did. He knows he is not supposed to cheat.

COLT: True. Listen, you don’t have to discuss this with me. I get what you’re saying. What he did was wrong, unethical. What you are about to do is your moral obligation. It is all logical and beautiful until it isn’t. I’m sure he knows someone who knows someone else who can ask the principal who it was that told him. He’ll know it was you. You’ll be making an enemy for life.

MARTIN: (after a pause) So this is what life is all about? Being afraid of doing the right thing? This is not how I want to live.

COLT: No one does. But – and this is my opinion - unless it is a matter of saving someone’s life, you shouldn’t go around being the almighty moral upholder.

MARTIN: (laughs quietly) That is not a thing.

COLT: (laughs) It sounds like a good definition for the kind of person you are. Quit being so uptight, man. So he cheated on the test. So what? Let it go this time.

MARTIN: I wish they wouldn’t do that…

COLT: What do you mean? Who? Do what?

MARTIN: I wish they – everyone, society, adults… - wouldn’t come up with all these rules just to make our lives miserable.
